127th Street resurfacing begins Nov. 2

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that resurfacing of 127th Street, from Laramie Avenue, in Alsip, to Western Avenue, in Blue Island, will require intermittent daytime lane closures beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Nov. 2.

The $1.1 million project consists of patching and resurfacing the 3.3-mile stretch of 127th Street. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction.

The work is anticipated to continue through late November and will resume next spring with the project wrapping up late summer 2027.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
