CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the bridges carrying Harlem Avenue (Illinois 43) over 95th Street (U.S. 12/20), and the eastbound 95th Street elevated ramp to southbound Harlem Avenue outer connector ramp over the CSX railroad in Bridgeview, Chicago Ridge and Oak Lawn, a ramp closure is scheduled begin, weather permitting, Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 to mid-November, the westbound 95th Street elevated ramp to southbound Harlem Avenue will close to accommodate construction of a new structure. A detour will use Roberts Road, 103rd Street and Harlem Avenue. \u200b

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

The $43.3 million project will reconstruct and resurface Harlem Avenue over 95th Street between 92nd and 99th Place and the Harlem Avenue/95th Street interchange, improve lighting and drainage, modernize traffic signals and construct new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps. The project also includes rehabilitating the Harlem Avenue bridges over the CSX railroad and over 95th Street along with the eastbound 95th Street elevated ramp to southbound Harlem Avenue outer connector ramp over the CSX railroad. Additionally, 95th Street from Interstate 294 (Tri-State Tollway) to New England Avenue will be resurfaced and new storm sewers installed. \u200b \u200b

The overall project is anticipated to be completed by the end of this year. \u200b \u200b

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
