Bridge replacement on U.S. 40 near Martinsville approaching completion ​

U.S. 40 will reopen on July 12

EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the near completion of the bridge replacement on U.S. 40 near Martinsville. U.S. 40 will reopen on Saturday, July 12, between York Street and Snake Trail. There will be periodic lane closures during the day for the next couple of weeks using flaggers to complete minor items. This $4.2 million bridge replacement project began in mid-March. ​

Motorists can expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
