UPDATE: Eastbound I-74 closure in Knox County

UPDATE: Eastbound Interstate 74 over the Spoon River in Knox County has reopened.

GALESBURG – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced this evening that eastbound Interstate 74 in Knox County is closed for emergency pavement repairs to the bridge deck over the Spoon River. Traffic is being detoured to U.S. 150.

The repairs are anticipated to be completed and the interstate reopened by April 22, weather permitting.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention, obey the posted speed limits and refrain from using mobile devices.

An ongoing $14.5 million project is replacing the I-74 bridges in both directions over the Spoon River. The expected completion date is next summer.
