Eastbound I-80 reconstructed ramp to Larkin Avenue opens Aug. 29

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to rebuild Interstate 80 from Ridge Road, in Minooka, to U.S. 30 in Joliet and New Lenox, the reconstructed ramp from eastbound I-80 to Larkin Avenue (Illinois 7) is scheduled to open beginning, weather permitting, Friday, Aug. 29.

Starting at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, lane closures will take place on eastbound I-80, between Houbolt Road and Larkin Avenue. At least one eastbound lane will remain open to traffic. The lanes that were closed overnight and the new ramp to Larkin Avenue will open by 5 a.m. Friday.

The new Larkin Avenue exit ramp was reconfigured to provide access to both northbound and southbound Larkin Avenue, controlled by a new traffic signal at the top of the ramp. Previously there were separate exit ramps for northbound and southbound Larkin Avenue.

As the I-80 reconstruction continues, the public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and to allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
