Emergency lane closure on eastbound I-80 in Joliet

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the right lane on eastbound Interstate 80 between Wheeler Avenue and Center Street, in Joliet, will be closing this morning for emergency pavement repairs. ​

The repairs are anticipated to be completed and the lane reopened by approximately 7 p.m. this evening.

Heavy congestion is anticipated. Motorists should consider alternative routes to avoid the area. Local streets are unable to accommodate heavy or wide trucks so other interstate routes are encouraged. ​

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
