UPDATE: Emergency lane closure on westbound I-80 near I-55
UPDATE: The work has been completed. All lanes are now open.
CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the left lane on westbound Interstate 80 between Interstate 55 and the DuPage River, in Joliet, is closed for emergency repairs.
The repairs are anticipated to be completed and the lane reopened later this evening. Eastbound I-80 is not impacted.
Heavy congestion is anticipated. Motorists should consider alternative routes to avoid the area. Local streets are unable to accommodate heavy or wide trucks so other interstate routes are encouraged.
The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
