First of new ramps opening at I-57/74 project

Overnight lane closures needed before Nov. 16 opening

CHAMPAIGN – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the westbound Interstate 74 ramp to northbound I-57 and the Prospect Avenue ramp to westbound I-74 will both reopen Nov. 16.

Overnight lane closures on westbound I-74 and northbound I-57 will be necessary starting at 9 p.m. tonight, Nov. 15, to complete road striping. This work is expected to be complete by 6 a.m. Nov. 16, when both ramps will reopen. This is the first new ramp opening and a major milestone for the I-57/74 interchange project.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
