Higgins Road at I-290/Illinois 53 weekend lane closures

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to Higgins Road (Illinois 72) at Illinois 290/Illinois 53, in Schaumburg and Rolling Meadows, will require lane closures in both directions of Higgins Road over three consecutive weekends beginning, weather permitting, Friday, Sept. 25.

Starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, to 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, Higgins Road between West Frontage and East Frontage roads will be reduced from three to one lane in both directions. ​

To complete the work, additional weekend lane closures are scheduled to take place, from 7 p.m. Fridays to 7 a.m. Mondays for approximately two additional weekends, weather permitting. All schedules are subject to change due to multiple factors, including weather. Any updates will be shared with the public as far in advance as possible.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
