I-57 closure begins April 10
CARBONDALE – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that Interstate 57 between exit 30 and exit 45 in Williamson and Union counties will close to all traffic at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, for emergency guardrail and pavement repairs.
A posted detour will direct southbound I-57 traffic to eastbound Interstate 24, just south of Marion. Northbound I-57 traffic will be directed to Illinois 146 at exit 30.
The repairs are expected to be completed the following morning, and all lanes reopened by 7 a.m. Friday, April 11.
Motorists can expect delays and should consider alternative routes to avoid the area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and message boards in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
