Illinois 23 to close at rail crossing in Ottawa Nov. 10

OTTAWA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that Illinois 23 (Columbus Street) at the Illinois Railway crossing in Ottawa will be closed for repairs beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10. The crossing is located at Fremont Street between Interstate 80 and U.S. 6.

Work is expected to take seven days to complete. A posted detour will direct motorists to use Illinois 71 and I-80.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
