Illinois 251 work in Tonica begins Sept. 15
TONICA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, work replace a culvert on Illinois 251 north of Tonica will begin Monday, Sept. 15. The culvert is located just south of North 21st Road.
The work will require closing Illinois 251 between Tonica and North 21st Road. A posted detour will direct traffic to use North 20th Road (Ray Richardson Road) and Interstate 39. The project is anticipated to be completed on Friday, Sept. 19.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
