Illinois 29 public hearing to be held Dec. 4
PEORIA – The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold an open house public hearing regarding proposed improvements to Illinois 29 (Galena Road) from just north of the McClugage Bridge (U.S. 150) in Peoria Heights to north of Gardner Lane in Peoria.
4-6 p.m. Dec. 4
Peoria Heights Grade School gymnasium
500 E. Glen Ave., Peoria Heights
The purpose of the hearing is to provide an update on the Illinois 29 reconstruction project and to obtain public input on the project. The preferred alternative for the project will be displayed. The proposed relocation of the Grand View Drive Pavilion and the impacts to Grand View Drive Park and Bielfeldt Park will also be displayed. Project exhibits, aerial photographs and reports will be available for viewing. In addition, IDOT staff members will be available to receive input, provide information and answer questions. No formal presentation will be given.
The proposed improvements include reconstruction of 2.6 miles of Illinois 29 and the addition of a bi-directional turn lane and pedestrian and bicycle accommodations. The project would convert approximately one acre out of about 200 adjacent acres of Peoria Park District property to highway use. It would also relocate the Grand View Drive Pavilion, a structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places, about 40 to 60 feet west of its current location. The improvements would also require right of way acquisition and displacement of eight residences. Right of way acquisition and relocation assistance information will be available.
IDOT is seeking public input on all aspects of the project. Comments can be submitted at the meeting or emailed to DOT.IL29GalenaRdProject@Illinois.gov. They may also be mailed to:
