Illinois 78 in Knox County to close Aug. 1

Work zone is between Elmwood and Yates City

ELMWOOD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Illinois 78 will close to all traffic at the railroad just south of the Illinois 8 junction, between Elmwood and Yates City in Knox County, on Aug. 1.

The closure is necessary for drainage and pavement improvements around the viaduct and is expected to last into early October. A detour will be posted.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
