Made possible by federal and state funds administered by IDOT, the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program helps to support bike and pedestrian travel, as well as make other surface transportation improvements that promote quality of life and expanded options for getting around communities.

In the last funding opportunity, IDOT distributed $139.2 million to support 67 projects, the largest amounts ever, due to Gov. JB Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois capital program. Approximately 75% of the funding was allocated for improvements in communities that best demonstrated financial need.

Passed in 2019, Rebuild Illinois is investing $33.2 billion into the state’s aging transportation system, creating jobs and promoting economic growth. Rebuild Illinois is not only the largest capital program in state history but also the first one that touches all modes of Illinois transportation: roads and bridges, transit, waterways, freight and passenger rail, aviation, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.
