Intersection closures at Illinois 1 and Illinois 141 begin July 13 in Gallatin and White counties

CARBONDALE – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that the intersection of Illinois 1 and Illinois 141 in Gallatin and White counties will be closed in two stages beginning Monday, July 13, weather permitting, for reconstruction.

Starting Monday, July 13, Illinois 1 will be closed north of the intersection with Illinois 141. The closure is expected to remain in place through Saturday, July 18. A marked detour will direct motorists around the work zone via U.S. 45 and Illinois 141.

Beginning Monday, July 20, Illinois 1 will be closed south of the intersection with Illinois 141. The closure is expected to remain in place through Saturday, July 25. A marked detour will direct motorists around the work zone via Illinois 141, U.S. 45 and Illinois 142.

Motorists should expect delays, allow extra travel time and use the posted detour routes. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, obey all construction signage and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
