Interstate 180 work underway in Bureau County

OTTAWA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that construction is underway on the bridges carrying Interstate 180 over Bureau Creek and Tiskilwa Bottom Road in Bureau County. The work zone is located a mile south of the Illinois 26 interchange (exit 7).

The work will replace both bridges carrying I-180 over Bureau Creek and the beams and deck of the bridges over Tiskilwa Bottom Road—both originally built in 1967. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and will use northbound I-180 in the work zone during construction of the southbound bridges. When the southbound bridges are completed, traffic will switch to those bridges to work on the northbound bridges.

Also, Tiskilwa Bottom Road will be closed under I-180 during the project and traffic should follow the posted detour. The $24.2 million project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Five of Rebuild Illinois include approximately $16 billion of improvements statewide on 6,541 miles of highway, 686 bridges and 986 additional safety improvements.
