Jackson Street bridge over Des Plaines River in Joliet full closure over five consecutive nights

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the bridge carrying Jackson Street over the Des Plaines River, in Joliet, will require a full bridge closure over five consecutive nights beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Oct. 12. ​

Starting the evening of Monday, Oct. 12, the public should expect overnight full closures approaching the bridge from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. The repairs are expected to be completed by 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. ​

The closures are necessary to repair corrosion on portions of the structural steel discovered during a recent evaluation. ​

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
