Kedzie Avenue bridge lane closures begin June 19

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the Kedzie Avenue bridge over the Cal Sag Channel in Robbins will be reduced from two to one lane in each direction beginning, weather permitting, Friday, June 19.

The lane closures are due to corrosion of the structural steel on portions of the bridge, discovered during a recent evaluation.

The repairs are expected to be completed in August. After completion the bridge will be returned to two lanes in each direction.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
