Lane closures on I-255 in Madison County begin June 3

COLLINSVILLE/PONTOON BEACH – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced intermittent nightly lane closures on Interstate 255 between I-270 and the St. Clair County line in Madison County beginning Wednesday, June 3, weather permitting.

The closures are necessary for a $6.6 million pavement preservation project on I-255.

Motorists can expect one lane to remain open in each direction nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. All lanes will reopen daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The work is expected to continue through the end of September.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone and detour route.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
