Lane reductions on I-57/64 and Illinois 15 in Jefferson County begin April 28
MT. VERNON – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that road construction on a half-mile stretch of Interstate 57/64 and Illinois 15 in Mt. Vernon will require lane reductions beginning, weather permitting, Monday, April 28.
Construction will begin at the I-57/64 interchange with Illinois 15 on the west side of Mt. Vernon in Jefferson County. Improvements will extend along Illinois 15 from Potomac Boulevard/45th Street to 44th Street.
This work is part of a $38.7 million project to reconstruct the I-57/64 and Illinois 15 interchange into a diverging diamond design. The project also includes replacement of the Illinois 15 bridge over I-57 and upgrades to associated ramps.
The project will be completed in multiple stages with changing traffic patterns, which will be announced ahead of time. Work is expected to be completed over two construction seasons.
Motorists should reduce speed, be alert to equipment and workers, and use extreme caution when traveling through this area. To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to seek an alternate route. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone as quickly as possible.
