Lights out at Rantoul intersection starting Sept. 22

RANTOUL – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the traffic lights at the intersection of U.S. 45 (Century Boulevard) and Sangamon Avenue in Rantoul will be turned off and covered beginning Sept. 22.

The signals will remain covered for 90 days as part of a traffic study to investigate the possible permanent removal of the signals. Stop signs will be placed to safely guide traffic through the intersection during the traffic study.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
