Major traffic pattern changes set July 1 for closure of the westbound McClugage Bridge
PEORIA/EAST PEORIA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the westbound McClugage Bridge carrying U.S. 150 over the Illinois River in Peoria and East Peoria will close starting Monday, July 1.
Motorists using the McClugage Bridge will notice a major traffic pattern change to accommodate work on the westbound span. Westbound traffic will utilize crossovers and shift onto the newer eastbound bridge, with two lanes dedicated for westbound and two lanes for eastbound traffic across the bridge.
As U.S. 150 and U.S. 24 traffic approaches the McClugage Bridge, they will be reduced to one lane to allow ramps to merge. Throughout the remainder of the construction zone, there will be two lanes of traffic across the bridge. All ramps will remain accessible.
This work is part of a multi-year rehabilitation project on the westbound McClugage Bridge and the bridge over Adams Street, which includes redecking, painting and miscellaneous repairs. The overall project is expected to be completed in late 2028.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
