Old State Road over Interstate 57 to close for bridge deck overlay project beginning Sept. 30 ​

MATTOON – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a bridge deck overlay project on Old State Road over Interstate 57 just east of Mattoon beginning Wednesday, Sept. 30. The project is expected to be completed on Friday, Oct. 2.

To complete the project, the closure of Old State Road between Lerna Road and South Country Club will be necessary. Message boards and signs will notify motorists of the closure. This project will improve safety and the smoothness of the pavement along Old State Road for the traveling public.

Motorists needing to cross the bridge will need to find an alternate route. ​ The road will be open to local traffic. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and obey the posted speed limits.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
