Open house for hiring seasonal employment on Dec. 2 in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON – The Illinois Department of Transportation is looking to hire 46 seasonal positions in District 5 to help with snow and ice removal in Champaign, DeWitt, Piatt and McLean counties. An open house hiring event will be held at IDOT’s Field Office in Bloomington on Dec.2.

Applications for snow removal operators and winter salaried highway maintainers, also known as snowbirds, must be completed online at illinois.jobs2web.com. Both full-time and hourly winter highway maintainers are being hired to help maintain more than 45,000 lane miles statewide during the winter months. The temporary positions are required to promptly respond to emerging weather situations for snow and ice removal and emergency conditions at any time, including nights, weekends and holidays. The starting salary for full time is $6,044 per month. Hourlies are paid $27.79 an hour.

Applicants must have a Class A or B commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements to include X or N and no airbrake restrictions and have an email address. A pre-employment physical and vision test as well as drug and alcohol screening and a criminal background check are required.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Five of Rebuild Illinois include approximately $16 billion of improvements statewide on 6,541 miles of highway, 686 bridges and 986 additional safety improvements.
