Prospect Avenue ramp closure begins Oct. 21

CHAMPAIGN – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the Prospect Avenue ramp to westbound Interstate 74 in Champaign will be temporarily closed beginning Oct. 21.

The closure is necessary to make a smooth and safe transition from the ramp for traffic merging onto the new pavement built on I-74 west of the Prospect Avenue/I-74 interchange. The ramp is expected to be closed until Nov. 15, weather permitting.

A signed detour will be in place, directing traffic to travel east on I-74 to Neil Street, using the ramp to I-74 westbound.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
