Public invited to learn what's next for U.S. 67 (Centennial Bridge) corridor

Fourth public meeting scheduled for Oct. 21 in Rock Island

DIXON - The Illinois and Iowa Departments of Transportation invite the public to attend an open house for the U.S. 67 (Centennial Bridge) corridor study on Wed., Oct. 21, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Rock Island-Quad Cities, 226 17th St., Rock Island.

After extensive analysis and public input, a preferred alternative has been identified to improve safety, connectivity, mobility and long-term reliability across the Mississippi River. The meeting will give attendees an opportunity to learn more about the preferred alternative and explore how the future bridge will connect Rock Island and Davenport.

U.S. 67, including the Centennial Bridge, is a critical connection between Illinois and Iowa. The study is focused on a long-term solution for the corridor.

Attendees will be able to review the preferred location of the future crossing, local road and intersection connections, bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, and potential bridge types considered.

“Public feedback has been integral to this study from the beginning and has helped inform the decisions made along the way,” said IDOT Program Development Engineer Mike Kuehn. “We encourage people to attend, ask questions and learn more about the Preferred Alternative and what comes next”.

There will be no formal presentation. Attendees can arrive at any time during the meeting to view exhibits, speak with project team members, ask questions and share feedback.

At the meeting, attendees can:

  • View the preferred location of the future crossing and its connections to the Rock Island and Davenport local street network
  • View bicycle and pedestrian accommodations
  • Learn about potential bridge types considered
  • Ask questions and talk with the project team

We want your feedback. Comments received by Nov. 4 will be included in the official meeting record.

Those who are unable to attend the meeting can review materials and submit comments online at www.centennialbridge.com.

People with a disability planning to attend and needing special accommodations should contact Michael Kuehn, Program Development Engineer, Illinois Department of Transportation, at least five days prior to the meeting by calling (815) 284-5307 or by email at Michael.Kuehn@illinois.gov.

About the U.S. 67 (Centennial Bridge) Corridor Project

The study limits extend from Fifth Street in Davenport to Seventh Avenue in Rock Island.

The project is currently in Phase I, which follows federal guidelines to assess transportation needs, evaluate alternatives, identify and mitigate potential environmental impacts, and gather public input. The Phase I study is expected to conclude in the summer of 2027.
