Public invited to provide input on Belvidere bypass project on Oct. 23

BELVIDERE – The Illinois Department of Transportation will host a public meeting for proposed improvements to U.S. Business 20 from the intersection on State Street and Appleton Road to the intersection of U.S. 20 and Genoa Road in Belvidere on Thursday, Oct. 23. The event will be from 1 to 6 p.m. in the Boone County Administrative Building, 1212 Logan Ave., Belvidere.

This meeting will be held in an open house format with no formal presentation. The public is invited to attend at any time during the hours listed to view informational displays, speak with project representatives, ask questions and share feedback.

IDOT is currently conducting a Phase I preliminary engineering and environmental study for the expansion of U.S. Business 20, also known as the Belvidere bypass, from two to four lanes. Other improvements include resurfacing of the existing road, building a new eastbound bridge over the Kishwaukee River and adding a multi-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
