Public meeting on April 8 to discuss Illinois 50 improvements in Kankakee
KANKAKEE – The Illinois Department of Transportation is inviting the public to attend an informational public meeting on Wednesday, April 8, to view and comment on the preliminary engineering and environmental study for the improvement of Illinois 50 from south of Brookmont Boulevard to Jeffrey Street in Kankakee. The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kankakee Community College, Building D, 100 College Drive, Kankakee.
The purpose of this meeting is to introduce a range of alternatives designed to improve safety and mobility in the Illinois 50 corridor. IDOT is seeking public feedback on several different design options that are under consideration, how each alternative affects the local community and environment, and the current challenges facing the Illinois 50 corridor.
Attendees may come at any time during the meeting to view a prerecorded presentation, view graphics and displays, discuss design concepts with IDOT staff, ask questions, and provide public comments. Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
