Public meeting planned on I-255 rehabilitation in St. Clair County

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS – The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting to discuss a project to rehabilitate and resurface approximately 3.1 miles of Interstate 255 from 0.5 mile south of Illinois 3 near Dupo to 0.2 mile north of Illinois 157 in Cahokia Heights. The meeting will be held:

Tuesday, Nov. 10
4-7 p.m.
Wirth/Parks Middle School
1900 Mousette Lane, Cahokia Heights

The $62.2 million project will include resurfacing, bridge repairs, safety improvements, new lighting, upgraded signage and drainage improvements to restore the road and bridges and improve conditions for motorists.

To expedite construction and improve work zone safety, a full closure of I-255 between Illinois 3 and Illinois 157 is anticipated to begin in spring or summer 2027 and last approximately four months. The road is expected to reopen in fall 2027. The full closure is intended to allow IDOT to complete the work within one construction season, compared with approximately two years using staged construction. Exact closure dates have not yet been determined.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide information about the project, including the anticipated full closure, detour routes and construction timeline, and answer questions from the public.

The meeting will be held in an open-house format. Display boards and information about the project will be available for review at the meeting and on the project website. Representatives from IDOT and the project team will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. No formal presentation will be made.

The meeting site is accessible to individuals with disabilities. Anyone needing specific assistance should contact Billie Owen, IDOT District 8 Studies and Plans Engineer, at 618-346-3175.
