Quincy Memorial Bridge over Mississippi River closing for emergency repairs

QUINCY – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced this evening that the Memorial Bridge (eastbound U.S. 24) over the Mississippi River, in Quincy, is closing for emergency repairs. A detour will direct traffic to the Bayview Bridge (westbound U.S. 24), which will be accommodating two-way traffic to cross the river.

An evaluation of the necessary repairs is ongoing and will continue into Tuesday. A more definitive timeline for when the bridge can reopen will be announced in the near future.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternative routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
