Today's Challenge, Tomorrow's Reward conference returns April 1 and 2

Skills-building, networking event supports minority- and women-owned businesses

SPRINGFIELD – Firms large and small that want to participate in Illinois Department of Transportation projects are encouraged to mark their calendars for Today's Challenge, Tomorrow's Reward on April 1 and 2 at the Crowne Plaza in Springfield. Hosted by IDOT’s Office of Business and Workforce Diversity, the conference provides female- and minority-owned businesses with opportunities to make connections and develop skills to grow and succeed.

“Our commitment to supporting a diverse business community remains steadfast,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Gia Biagi. “Now, more than ever, it is important to take advantage of opportunities to network across our industry.”

Celebrating its 35th gathering, Today’s Challenge, Tomorrow’s Reward offers workshops to build skills, seminars on best business practices and networking opportunities for businesses and contractors wanting to partner with IDOT through the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.

Conference topics include regulatory and DBE reevaluation updates, funding opportunities, leadership strategies and advancements in technology. Industry leaders and IDOT staff also will be leading sessions on how to participate in projects, from bidding through delivery.

Featured speakers include three-time track-and-field national champion and 10-time All-American Charles Clark as well as Wilbur Milhouse, who founded a Chicago construction company that graduated from the DBE program and grew into a family of seven companies with more than 400 employees nationwide.

The event is attended by subcontractors and prime contractors in construction, trucking, engineering and other consulting services. Visit idot.illinois.gov or click here to learn how to sign up. Registration is free, with walk-ins welcome throughout the conference.
