Traffic patterns around McClugage Bridge to shift

PEORIA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that as part of ongoing construction around the McClugage Bridge (War Memorial Drive/U.S. 150) in Peoria, traffic patterns in the area will change starting this evening:

  • By the end of the day today, the current one-lane configuration on Eastbound U.S. 150 will return to its previous configuration of two lanes of traffic across the bridge into East Peoria.
  • Beginning June 1, resurfacing work will commence on the Peoria side of the Illinois River along Eastbound U.S. 150. Lane closures will change as this work progresses. The work is expected to be completed by the morning of June 6.
  • Resurfacing work on Adams Street between Homestead Avenue and Lorentz Avenue will begin on June 2, with daytime lane closures required through June 5.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
