Traffic signal field study on Broadway Street at 25th Street in Quincy to begin Oct. 7
QUINCY - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a traffic signal field study to evaluate the need for traffic signals at the intersection of Broadway Street and 25th Street will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7. The study will be ongoing for a minimum of 90 days as prescribed by federal requirements.
During the study, traffic signals will be turned off and covered. Traffic on Broadway Street will not be required to stop. Stop signs will be placed on 25th Street, requiring all traffic crossing or entering Broadway Street to stop.
If the study confirms traffic signals are no longer necessary while demonstrating safe operations, the signals will be permanently removed. This study is part of the initial steps for the upcoming Broadway Street improvement project that goes from west of 12th Street to west of 38th Street, which is scheduled to begin in 2025.
Federal Highway Administration studies indicate removing unwarranted traffic signals can reduce crashes, eliminate red light violations and reduce excessive wait times at intersections.
