U.S. 12 improvements in Lake County begin March 23

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that a project to improve U.S. 12 (Rand Road) from Illinois 59 to south of Old Rand Road, in Fox Lake, Volvo, Lakemoor, Wauconda and Mundelein, will require intermittent daytime lane closures, along with various overnight and weekend lane closures beginning, weather permitting, Monday, March 23.

The $16.9 million project consists of resurfacing 6.5 miles of U.S. 12 and constructing shoulders with rumble strips. The project also includes installing centerline and shoulder rumble strips on Illinois 176 from west of Ivanhoe Road to west of Hawley Street. The work is expected to be completed in October. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
