U.S. 136 Mississippi River bridge work resumes April 1

QUINCY – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the resurfacing and repairs project on the U.S. 136 Mississippi River bridge between Hamilton and Keokuk, Iowa, that began in 2024 will resume on Tuesday, April 1.

During this stage of this $8.8 million project, the bridge traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes with one lane of traffic in each direction. Benefits from the project include a new driving surface and increasing the life of the bridge. This project is expected to be completed in mid-August.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
