U.S. 150 near Spoon River bridge closed

Broken oversized load trailer is blocking the road

UPDATE: Additional time was needed to complete the trailer repairs to move the oversized load. U.S. 150 reopened at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16.

GALESBURG –The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that U.S. 150 near the Spoon River bridge is closed due to an oversized load that has a broken trailer. The road closure is expected to last a minimum of 72 hours. The public should use I-74 to re-enter U.S. 150 via the IL 97/U.S. 150 exit east of Knoxville. An additional alternate route is IL 180 to IL 167 to U.S. 34 to U.S. 150/Henderson Street.

A specialized crane is needed to lift the damaged trailer to make the repairs. IDOT is monitoring the weather forecast closely and if a winter storm does occur, the department will be plowing U.S. 150, but efforts will be limited due to the oversized load in the roadway. Public safety continues to be our number one priority, and we will make every effort to get the roadway back open as soon as possible. IDOT is working with ISP and appreciates the public's patience as we work to resolve this issue.
