U.S. 20 safety project in East Dubuque complete
Intersection reconstruction aids access to logistics park
EAST DUBUQUE – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the completion of the reconstruction of the intersection of U.S. 20 and Barge Terminal Road in East Dubuque. The $13.6 million project, made possible under Gov. JB Pritzker’s bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan, increases safety in an area that is home to several trucking companies and a 100-acre logistics park.
Work began in late March to rebuild 1.5 miles of U.S. 20 from Frentress Lake Road to just east of Barge Terminal Road. Improvements included adding acceleration and deceleration lanes on both directions of U.S. 20. On westbound U.S. 20, an island was installed to allow traffic to focus on oncoming traffic in one direction instead of all four lanes of traffic when entering or exiting Barge Terminal Road.
Other features improved access for residents and businesses along the westbound U.S. 20 Frontage Road and Kramer Road. A left turn lane was added to eastbound U.S. 20 at Frentress Lake Road to provide access to the roads.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
