Virtual public meeting for Illinois 251 reconstruction project in Rockford Jan. 15
DIXON – The Illinois Department of Transportation will host a virtual public meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, to present information and seek input on the reconstruction of Illinois 251 (Harrison Avenue) from Ninth Street to Kishwaukee Street in Rockford.
People can register for the meeting here. In addition to a presentation of exhibits and maps, the meeting will include the opportunities to answer questions.
During the meeting, the project team will present a project overview, discuss improvements, and receive public feedback. The meeting will conclude with a question-and-answer session with IDOT representatives and the project team.
The project will reconstruct and widen Harrison Avenue from Ninth Street to Kishwaukee Street to bring the road up to current standards, improve the pavement conditions and modernize the intersections. Improvements include replacement of pavement, sidewalks, and curbs and gutters; construction of a multiuse path; new storm sewers; new traffic signals, lighting, signing and pavement markings.
Meeting materials and a recording of the public meeting will be posted to the project website at https://idot.click/HarrisonAveRockford. Comments and questions are encouraged at any time. Comments received by Friday, Jan. 31 will be included in the public meeting record.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Five of Rebuild Illinois include approximately $16 billion of improvements statewide on 6,541 miles of highway, 686 bridges and 986 additional safety improvements.
