Virtual public meeting on improvements to Illinois 64 and 251 in Ogle County Nov. 18
OGLE COUNTY – The Illinois Department of Transportation will host a virtual public meeting for proposed improvements to the intersection of Illinois 64 and 251 in Ogle County on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. The public meeting will be held online at https://cmtengr.zoom.us/j/83204340396.
The meeting is part of the ongoing Phase I Engineering and Environmental Study to identify and examine potential improvements to the intersection. This study will examine suitable traffic control alternatives that address the safety and mobility of traffic currently experienced at the intersection.
At the public meeting, the project team will present a project overview, discuss improvements and receive public feedback. The meeting will conclude with a question-and-answer session with IDOT representatives and the project team.
Meeting materials and a recording of the public meeting will be posted to the project website at https://idot.click/IL64and251ogle. Comments and questions are encouraged and can be submitted through the website.
Currently, this intersection is a four-way stop intersection. Illinois 251 originally was four lanes at the intersection before a restriping project this fall reduced the lanes to two. Proposed for this intersection is a conversion into a modern roundabout with a 20-foot-wide circulating single lane. The center of the roundabout and long splitter islands will deflect entering vehicles approaching the roundabout.
The roundabout will include a 12-foot-wide concrete truck apron, located just outside of the central island, that will accommodate large trucks, farm equipment and emergency vehicles. The apron will provide these vehicles an additional area to maneuver through the circle. Lighting around the roundabout also would be installed.
