Weekend closure of Illinois 34 begins Dec. 5

CARBONDALE – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that a project to replace two culverts in Saline County will require a weekend closure of Illinois 34 in both directions, approximately 4.5 miles west of Galatia, starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, weather permitting.

Illinois 34 will be closed from West End Road to Ebenezer Road. McFarland Road will remain open for traffic crossing Illinois 34.

A posted detour using Illinois 149, Illinois 37 and Illinois 13 will be in place to safely guide motorists around the closure. Work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changing conditions and all detour signs prior to the work zone, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
