Weekend closure of Ohio Street ramp set for June 26
CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that concrete pavement patching to repair the Ontario and Ohio Street ramps to the elevated bridges in Chicago will require a full closure over three weekends alternating between Ontario and Ohio streets. This is the second of three planned weekend closures.
Starting at 11 p.m. Friday, June 26, Ohio Street will be fully closed between the Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94) and Orleans Street. A detour will direct eastbound traffic to North Avenue (Illinois 64), Clybourn Avenue, Division Street and LaSalle Drive. Ohio Street will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 29.
The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
One additional weekend full closure will be required to complete the work. Details and impacts to traffic will be shared in advance, closer to the closure dates. The closures are necessary to complete a $15.4 million project to rehabilitate the structures carrying Ohio and Ontario streets over the Chicago River’s North Branch, Union Pacific railroad and Kingsbury Street.
