Work on I-74 and 280 in Rock Island County begins Sept. 2
MOLINE – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, construction on Interstates 74 and 280 will begin Tuesday, Sept. 2. The work zone will be from the Milan Beltway to the Henry County line and includes the ramps at the I-74 and U.S. 6 interchange.
The $11.5 million project will patch and resurface the road, including the ramps at the I-74 and U.S. 6 interchange. Work will be done in two stages, and one lane of traffic will be closed to traffic during each stage.
Stage one will work on the eastbound lanes of I-74 and I-280, including the exit and entrance ramps at the I-74 and U.S. 6 interchange. Work is expected to be completed by the end of November. Stage two will begin in spring 2026 and will work on the westbound lanes and the exit and entrance ramps at the I-74 and U.S. 6 interchange. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by August 2026.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide on 7,897 miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
