Work underway on I-57 in Kankakee County
OTTAWA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that construction is underway on Interstate 57 in Kankakee County. The nearly 9-mile work zone is from a half-mile south of Larry Power Road to the Will County line.
Work will consist of pavement patching and resurfacing and will include the ramps at the Manteno interchange (exit 322). Much of the work will be done at night and will begin with concrete patching followed by milling and resurfacing. I-57 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during the $19.5 million project, which is expected to be completed in October.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Five of Rebuild Illinois include approximately $16 billion of improvements statewide on 6,541 miles of highway, 686 bridges and 986 additional safety improvements.
