$10.5 Million resurfacing of Illinois 29 in Pana begins March 23

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that a 1.5-mile resurfacing of Illinois 29 from Magnolia Street to the intersection of U.S. 51 will begin Monday, March 23. Work is expected to be completed by the end of August 2027.

“We’re pleased to announce that we will be starting this much-needed resurfacing project in Pana,” said IDOT Region 4 Engineer Teresa Price. “When the project is complete, the public will benefit from a smoother driving surface and the community will enjoy the added improvements, such as new sidewalks and a crosswalk near the Lincoln Prairie Trail parking area.”

The $10.5 million project also includes upgrading drainage, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and lighting. Lane closures should be anticipated, with advance signs and traffic signals. As vehicles approach the signals, they should stay in their lane all the way up to the signal stop bar and then proceed as the signals indicate.

Motorists can expect delays and should consider an alternate route. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
