Bridge replacement near Martinsville closes U.S. 40 ​

EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that U.S. 40 has closed, between York Street and Snake Trail Road, for a bridge replacement project. The project is expected to be completed in mid-July.

A detour has been posted utilizing Interstate 70. Motorists are encouraged to follow this detour and avoid traveling on local streets. Benefits of the project include a new driving surface.

IDOT staff hosted a meeting with the first responders from the Martinsville/Clark County area to discuss the detour and alternate routes that will be used during the closure. ​

Motorists can expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
