Bridge work on Illinois 78/97 resumes next week

HAVANA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a bridge preservation project that started last May on Illinois 78/97 over Spoon River and Lacy Ditch, just west of Havana, will resume the week of March 10.

The work will reduce Illinois 78/97 to one lane, with traffic controlled by temporary signals, in different parts of the work zone until July.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
