Culvert repairs to close Illinois 33 northeast of Westport
EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Illinois 33 just north of U.S. 50 along the Wabash River in Lawrence County will be closed for culvert repairs beginning Monday, Aug. 25.
This project replaces aging infrastructure, which will help enhance safety through a scenic corridor in Lawrence County. Signs notifying motorists of the closure have been placed at the U.S. 50/Illinois 33 interchange and the Illinois 1/Illinois 33 interchange. A detour will be posted utilizing Illinois 1 and Illinois 33. Work is expected to take approximately two weeks.
Motorists will need to find an alternate route. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
