Eastbound I-474 traffic pattern change set for April 16

Traffic will utilize crossovers near the Interstate 74/474 and Illinois 6 interchange

PEORIA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that eastbound Interstate 474 traffic will begin using the crossovers near the I-74/474 and Illinois 6 interchange on April 16.

Traffic will remain two lanes in each direction and be separated by a concrete barrier wall. This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until late fall.

The traffic change is necessary for reconstruction of the twin bridges spanning Kickapoo Creek and the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway. Traffic will ultimately be utilizing the previously constructed crossovers as the eastbound I-474 structure is completed in the fall. The westbound structure will be completed in 2026.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
