Eastbound I-80 lane changes
CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of the ongoing efforts to rebuild Interstate 80 in Minooka, Joliet and New Lenox, a stage change is scheduled to take place on eastbound I-80 beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Dec. 9.
To facilitate the stage change, starting at 8 p.m. Monday, lane closures will take place on eastbound I-80, between Ridge and River roads. At least one eastbound lane will remain open to traffic. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, when the new traffic pattern will be in place.
In the new configuration, the eastbound lanes will be shifted back over to the eastbound side onto the newly constructed pavement.
Later this year, westbound I-80, between Ridge and River roads will be shifted over to the eastbound side to allow for completion of work in the westbound lanes. Details and impacts to traffic will be shared in advance, closer to the stage change date.
As the I-80 reconstruction continues, the public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and to allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
